## CodeSandbox Friends (free workspace for open source projects)

**What you get.** Free or low-cost access to CodeSandbox for the approved project: an unlimited number of Sandboxes on the eligible workspace and early access to Sandbox API updates. Projects that are no longer maintained but otherwise qualify can get a custom Sandbox limit for documentation and educational examples.

**Who qualifies.** Applies to the project; OSI-approved license required. Licensed open source libraries, frameworks and plugins that are publicly available; developer community projects that give away tools, content or education; and legally recognized non-profits. Open source projects backed or owned by for-profit companies are not eligible (CodeSandbox may offer them a discounted Enterprise plan). The applicant must own the project or repository, apply once per project, and explain how the project would benefit. Access is at CodeSandbox's discretion and the program can be withdrawn with 30 days' notice.

**How to apply.** Submit the CodeSandbox support form at codesandbox.io/support and select "CodeSandbox Friends". Approved owners can then invite contributors to the Friends workspace.

Verified 2026-09-07 - manual: docs page text confirmed from its source in the codesandbox/docs repository (packages/projects-docs/pages/learn/plans/codesandbox-friends.mdx, last changed 2024-09-05) and a 2026-02-15 Wayback snapshot; codesandbox.io returns 403 to automated fetches (Cloudflare bot check), so the weekly verifier may report this page inconclusive
